What it is

Lunch and recess have no seating chart and no lesson plan. For a child who worries about where to sit, who to play with, or what to say, that open time can feel harder than any test. Recess & Lunch Plan helps kids ages 7 to 11 walk in with a plan: where they'll sit, what they'll play, the words to join in, and a backup for when things don't go to plan. It also treats quiet time as a real choice, not a failure, with a Quiet Spot Pass kids set up with an adult at school.

What's included

  • How My Plan Works: map it, plan it, try it, talk it over, plus "every kind of recess counts"
  • My School Map: draw the lunchroom and playground from above and mark where to eat, play, rest, and find a grown-up
  • My Lunch Plan: Plan A / B / C for where to sit, sitting down step by step, and what to do at the table
  • My Recess Plan: 12 picture choices (tag, four square, swings, chalk, read or rest and more) plus a first try, a backup, and a quiet backup
  • Joining In: watch, wait for a pause, ask or offer; words to ask, words to offer, and what to do after "not now"
  • 7 pocket script cards plus a "My plan today" card
  • 12 lunch talk cards: easy questions to ask, then listen
  • Quiet Spot Pass: 2 cut-out passes and a quiet spot deal to make with an adult at school
  • What If...?: backup plans for a friend who's absent, indoor recess, too much noise, "you can't play," and when someone is mean on purpose
  • After-School Debrief: how lunch and recess felt, what I tried, what went okay, what I'll try tomorrow
  • My Brave Weeks: a 2-week tracker with no streaks ("hard, and I tried" counts)
  • 2 grown-up pages: Using the Plan, and Working With School (what to ask the school, what's worth a closer look)
